The Jowissa brand was founded in 1951 in Bettlach, Switzerland, a region traditionally dedicated to the art of watchmaking. The brand name is derived from the name of its founder Josef Wyss. His vision of a new Swiss fashion and jewelry watch came at the right moment: in the 1950s, the wristwatch was becoming a trend accessory. With the launch of a sophisticated, fashionable and affordable watch collection, Jowissa immediately captures the spirit of the times.
In the decades that followed, the brand made a name for itself with its creative approach. In the 1960s, for example, pendant watches with cut glass caused a sensation. Similar to a diamond, this technique gives the watch glass fine facets that reflect light. To this day, Jowissa is one of the few manufacturers of Swiss watches with cut glass as well as an outstanding price/performance ratio and has built a reputation for itself in the market.
Time and again, Jowissa as a watch manufacturer manages to successfully adapt new technologies and trends. As early as the 1970s, in-house produced cases made of ceramic complemented the collection, and in the 1980s Jowissa was able to confidently adopt and implement the still young quartz technology. With Woodtime and Stonetime, timepieces in innovative cases made of wood and stone are introduced in the 1990s.
The tradition-conscious family business presents itself in the 21st century with its own online store and a product range with high recognition value, which combines noble materials with fashionable colors. The brand is currently represented by more than 400 points of sale in 30 countries. Today, as more than 65 years ago, Jowissa stands for Swiss watchmaking art that keeps up with the times, both technically and fashionably.
